DIOPLEX™ is a family of aluminium-bodied explosive linear cutting charges which are user filled and supplied in kit form. The charge cases are assembled in sizes corresponding to particular applications, and then filled with plastic explosive. A single 40mm DIOPLEX™ charge severs steel plate about 40mm (1.6”) thick.
DIOPLEX™ charges are assembled from pre-formed one metre or half metre lengths of extruded aluminium, with the copper liner factory fitted and sealed in place.
The only requirements are a flat working surface and a hack-saw. The user cuts the charges to the lengths required and fits plastic end-caps to each end of the charge. The end-caps may be sealed with silicone rubber for use under water.
The End Caps are designed to fit firmly onto the ends of the charge cases. A sealant should be used for underwater use.
Sizes & Performance
DIOPLEX comes in four basic sizes, 20mm, 30mm, 40mm & 80mm. Each size is available in half and one metre lengths. For large orders charges can be provided in custom lengths.
20mm DIOPLEX™ is the smallest sharge size which is capable of cutting10mm of steel. It is a good, efficient charge for lightweight cutting and for cutting through thick (40mm) laminate glass.
30mm DIOPLEX™ is a good engineering cutting charge. With an NEQ of under half that of 40mm Dioplex it offers precision combined with low NEQ while being capable of cutting the majority of steel encountered in buildings and structures. Using two opposing charges would result in the same NEQ as the larger variant but with an effective cutting ability of over 60mm.
40mm DIOPLEX™ is the soldier’s choice. While having a larger NEQ it offers a higher degree of overkill which may be preferred in situations where NEQ is less important than a guaranteed result.
80mm DIOPLEX™ is the largest charge. Capable of cutting through massive steel or concrete structures, it offers unrivalled cutting performance.
